Today I’m reminiscing about the days full of sunshine and warmer weather. Don’t get me wrong. I do love winter but I’m about ready for spring to make an appearance. I’m starting to crave the flavours and food of spring and summer, not to mention my farmers markets and gardens full of vibrant colours and fresh produce. Since my homeland (Toronto) is still covered in snow and sporting temperatures below zero I am looking at photos of warmer days and dreaming about recipes like this delicious Vanilla Protein Latte.
This recipe is the perfect pick me up. The coffee gives a nice caffeine kick while the protein powder satisfies your appetite and balances blood sugar. Mid morning or early afternoon it’s the perfect drink to keep your energy up and allow you to take on the world! I know what I’m sipping on today. After all, the cold never bothered me anyways 😉
To boost the health benefits of this latte I add a delicious protein powder. I used the Vanilla Chai protein from the brand N8ked. It’s a whey based protein powder sweetened with coconut sugar and avoids all fillers and other funky binders that most protein powders include. The other amazing thing about this protein is the amount of water or liquid it requires. You only need 150 ml for 2 scoops! Say what?! I love this component because I am not one to drink a large shaker bottle filled with bland chalky protein. I LOVE only having to drink 150ml and getting 20 grams of protein. It is extremely enjoyable! This is also the reason why my recipe uses so little almond milk. If you are using another protein powder you may need to increase the milk in the recipe.
- 2 scoops vanilla chai protein powder (I used the brand N8ked)
- 150 ml almond milk
- 1/4 cup dark coffee, brewed and cooled
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup ice cubes
- Place everything in a high powered blender and blend away. I left mine a little icey to give that slushy effect.
*depending on the protein powder you choose the recipe may require more liquid.
